Michele Monaco writes a fantastic holiday story in Santa’s Magical Reindeer: Becoming Pen Pals. Santa’s “Fantastic Eight” reindeer go around the world looking for special children to share letters as pen pals. Dasher, Vixen, and Prancer chose three sisters, Kylie, Rinnie, and Kenna from Pennsylvania as their special writing pals. Late in the night, the reindeer sprinkle “sweet dream silver floss” on the girls’ heads and deliver their letters. The trio is overjoyed and writes back quickly, asking a lot of questions. The children trade letters back and forth with their reindeer pen pals from after Thanksgiving to Christmas. At Christmas, the sisters receive an additional gift from the reindeer.
Michele Monaco has crafted a fantastic children’s book that will stir up magical holiday feelings! The book is beautifully illustrated with readable text on the letters the reindeer and children exchange. Readers will love the fireside chat the reindeer have about the special youth in their lives, and they’ll be hoping for a letter from one of them. Caregivers could use the book to start a holiday tradition, encouraging children to write letters to their favorite reindeer. The author includes a list of possible questions at the end of the book to promote the activity. The book advances literacy, handwriting, and imagination, and gives children a glimpse into the happenings at Sleigh Bell City at the North Pole. Santa’s Magical Reindeer is a great selection for children who enjoy the spirit of Christmas and have an interest in Santa’s reindeer.
