When Sammy, along with several other animals, is caged and loaded onto a truck for a long journey from his birth home, a reservation, to his new home on a farm, he is both sad and frightened. But, once he is settled in and realizes each of his rescued mates, is just like him, different from others of each of their breeds, but as a result unique, Sammy finds much to love and enjoy with his new family and home. Whether your youngster is one with special needs or merely feels out of place or very different from his or her classmates and friends, Debra Siraco and Zareen Wilhelm's Sammy’s Voyage to a New Home is written to help him or her realize the positive sides to those feelings i.e. your child is unique and very special.
Through a minimum of words and an abundance of superbly drawn, multicolored illustrations by Chase Americana, this is the true story of Sammy, a cat with no tail and back legs that are a lot longer than his front legs. Without unnecessary focus on Sammy’s disabilities, Debra Siraco and Zareen Wilhelm show how despite being bullied, Sammy stays positive by accepting his uniqueness. This short book, the first of a series, is long on beautiful illustrations and emotionally rich. Sammy’s journey takes him across the prairies of Oklahoma and through the White Sands National Park. Parent and child will bond as they map out Sammy’s route. Sammy’s Voyage to a New Home is a delightful book whether shared by a parent and child or a teacher with Grade 1-3 classes. Highly recommended.
