Like all of Nicholas Sparks' books, Safe Harbor’s setting is South Carolina. In his latest book a mysterious woman arrives in Southport. Despite her determination to stay to herself, she is drawn to Alex and his son and daughter. She also forms a relationship with Jo, the young woman next door. Katie is on the run from an abusive husband. Southport seems like a safe place. She soon admits to herself that she is in love with Alex and his children.

This book has it all: suspense, romance, and a bit of paranormal. I don’t want to give anything away and spoil this book for others, so I will end the summary at this point. Nicholas Sparks is...well he’s NICHOLAS SPARKS, need I say more. Last year I was at a book festival in West Virginia, and he was there. No, I didn’t get to meet him, but I was in the same building as NICHOLAS SPARKS! Both my husband and I are fans of his books. My understanding is that Safe Harbor will be made into a movie. I look forward to seeing it. I usually think books are better than movies, such as The Last Song, I loved the book but thought the movie was not quite up to snuff.

I enjoyed Safe Harbor. I was quickly caught up in Katie’s story. At times the plot was a bit predicable, but it was still entertaining. The characters were delightful. Alex and Katie worked well together, and Kevin was the perfect villain. He was just the right mix of evil, just as Alex was the perfect mix of goodness. I anxiously await Sparks' next book.
