Running Home by John Caldwell is a story about a young man’s experiences in the path of Christendom. At the tender age of seven, he became aware of his difference and sought to share his faith with fellow classmates. He learned the hard way that not everyone welcomed or was interested in his faith. In time he became wiser and realized what his friends thought about faith and the impact a divorce would have on a young child. The author goes on to explain the joy he experienced whenever he went to church, and his new found passion for music and people. Chapter by chapter, the author introduces pages from his life in order to paint an illustrated view of his life — the good and the bad. There is a saying that we overcome by our testimony.
In Running Home, John Caldwell shares a powerful, sincere story that will touch the depths of your heart. Any child who witnesses the destruction of his parents’ marriage will alter their viewpoint on family. John shares his deepest feelings and welcomes readers into his life, unashamedly and honestly. The author reminds me of the Good Samaritan in the Bible, who went out of his way to help someone who couldn’t help themselves. This unselfish act seemed to be the primary thrust behind John’s doings. In one of the chapters, the author shares an inspiring message, which happened to be his first sermon. John Caldwell also made a profound statement that speaks volumes. ‘Sometimes, as Christians, it is so easy to stay within our own little bubble.’ This is all too true. It is when we step out of our comfort zone that the love of Christ will be seen through us. This is a wonderful testimony by a young man after God’s own heart.
