Rosa Parks Beyond the Bus: Life, Lessons, Leadership is a beautifully written book by H.H. Leonard. The book is a compilation of the author's recollections of the legendary activist Rosa Parks. Narrated by the author, the book describes what kind of person Rosa Parks was, a headstrong woman with her heart in the right place. The author's first recollection of Rosa was when she moved in with the author to recuperate from injuries inflicted by a robber at her Detroit home. The author was amazed at the strength that she showed after going through a horrible ordeal at the age of eighty-six. Gradually as they grew closer, Rosa started to open up about her life as an Afro-American woman living in the 20th century.
The book explores various genres of inspiration and biographical forms of writing. Who knew that a simple seamstress would become a beacon for all of the Afro-American community? What would have happened if Rosa had given up her seat that day? Would the status of the community still be the same? We may wonder about these situations now, but the truth is that history was made when a single woman took a stand for herself in the face of injustice and changed the direction of life for countless people. H.H. Leonard's writing style instantly captivates the reader and inspires them to achieve great heights. This book is a must-read for everyone. It provides a constant source of inspiration because Rosa Parks' ideology was something even famous personalities such as Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King Jr admired. The recollections told in the form of stories and interviews depict how Rosa overcame all obstacles thrown in her way and changed the course of life for her whole community. I recommend this book to anyone facing hardships. It will give readers hope and a new way of life.
