K.C. Ale's Reinventing Fate (Arrangement Book 1) features Colin and Paige. Colin, an affluent businessman, was friends with Damian, who challenged him to make Paige, a waitress, into the perfect woman. Paige was working hard to help her younger brother Rome establish a career in acting. She also wanted him to have money for when she was no longer around. That evening she received a package containing a magazine cover featuring Rome in the headlines as an award-winning actor. Included was a business card from Colin. The following day Paige is picked up by Colin’s driver and taken to his penthouse. Colin tells her he can promise that Rome will achieve success if she would allow him to control her life. He sweetened the deal with a weekly payment of ten thousand dollars. After some deliberation, Paige accepted the offer.
K.C. Ale made Colin and Paige come to life from a romantic perspective. I fell in love with Paige’s independent nature and her ability to challenge Colin’s superiority complex. The tension between them was intense and kept growing every moment they were together. Colin and Paige both secretly wanted to develop a relationship. I became frustrated at Paige’s refusal to accept that her life could be altered by Colin. The suspense kept me glued to every page, as what she was hiding wasn't revealed in the beginning. The twists added to the unpredictable direction of the story, and the conclusion still leaves an air of uncertainty. The emotions, physical attributes, and personalities of the supporting characters included realistic dialogue. Colin’s office assistant Donna reminded me of a scolding grandmother and their interaction made me laugh out loud. I eagerly look forward to reading the sequel to Reinventing Fate (Arrangement Book 1).
