Many legends have been written around the scythe-bearing figure known as The Reaper. This dark and mysterious character links the tales in Reaper by Amy Louise Hill, which includes three stories that have little else in common. They all encompass Death, but the situations are very diverse. In this way, readers can enjoy these dark settings without feeling any sense of repetition.
The way Amy Louise Hill chose to narrate each story in Reaper varies, giving the collection an unusual touch and in each case providing a different insight. If the prospect of an appearance by Death's representative is what has drawn your attention in the first place, I must sound a warning. Although The Reaper does appear in all three accounts, don't expect him to be a grim, hooded figure. The book manages to paint three different images of him, although they remain largely faithful to the portrait shown in every legend. This does not mean the book lacks the expected thrills and while reading it, I had a shiver running down my spine. I could feel the adrenaline pulsing through my veins but my hands wouldn't let me put the book aside. I have my exams around the corner and a never-ending pile of work, but I couldn't help finishing this book in one sitting. If you enjoy this kind of literature, you will appreciate its addictive nature!
