Rayn And The Time Traveling Sistas: Volume 1 is a children’s educational adventure story written by Ookgie Taylor. Aura, from her vantage point at the Center of the Universe, which just happens to be in Tulsa, Oklahoma, has a crucially important task to fulfill. She must find five girls who were all born on the same day and hour, and determine a way to send them their rings. Each girl would receive her ring on the day before her birthday with instructions to wait until the next day to put it on at the hour of their birth. The rings ended up with girls from all over the globe: one in England, another in the United States, the others in Mexico, India, and China. Each girl was thrilled to find a lovely gift box on her pillow. As they opened them, they each found a ring shaped like a musical instrument along with instructions about when to put on their gift. They were all so excited; each of them could hardly get a bit of sleep that night. When the hour finally arrived, each grasped their ring and put it on. Then the most amazing thing happened.
Ookgie Taylor’s educational adventure novel for children and preteens, Rayn And The Time Traveling Sistas: Volume 1, introduces children to five women whose lives and careers have made an impact in the sciences, business and culture. I appreciated how the author made the effort to introduce women with whom her audience was most likely unfamiliar, and loved the concise and well-presented biographical information given for each of the subjects. The illustrations work quite well with the story and the manner of presentation of the material covered makes learning an entertaining and inspiring adventure. Rayn And The Time Traveling Sistas: Volume 1 is highly recommended.
