About a year and a half ago, I gave up sugar when I learned that it was triggering some of my migraines. The next food I had to give up due to migraines was onions. This year, I gave up gluten for a while to see if I had an intolerance for it and, sure enough, I did feel better when I was gluten-free. Because of those experiences, when I saw Ross Contreras' Raw Food Diet For Beginners: Simple, Easy To Follow Diet Plans And Tips That Promises A Slimmer And Leaner Body Naturally, I wanted to check it out as I have learned that what we put into our bodies really does greatly influence our health.
The first thing I learned from reading this book was the definition of raw food (which I thought was obvious, but isn't). Contreras explains that raw food is any plant food that has not been heated over 118 degrees so that the enzymes within it are not destroyed. Following that, the contents explain how your body works with its natural enzymes, the difference between raw food and cooked food, how raw food helps you lose weight, and a list of raw foods you should and should not eat. Closing out the book are recipes that you can use to prepare raw food meals at home. Ross Contreras' Raw Food Diet For Beginners is a good resource for understanding a raw food diet.
