Sleuth mystery lovers are in for an enticing whodunnit mystery with Charlotte Stuart's Raven's Grave. Set in the southeastern Alaskan village of Koloshan in the late 1970s, the story follows police officer and Vietnam vet Jonah St. Clair as he tries to untangle the mystery of the young shaman named Chaaky and the village fisherman Fred Hall, who disappeared with $75000. Accused of killing a young boy named Johnny Simpson, Chaaky is now nowhere to be found. Plagued by PTSD from his time in Vietnam, Jonah follows the clues and discovers that drugs may have had something to do with Johnny's murder. Meanwhile, while on the trail of Chaaky, he is shot by a nefarious man with an unknown agenda. To solve the case of the murdered boy and the missing fisherman, Jonah will have to go against old friends.

There is so much to love about this book. Charlotte Stuart weaves a delicious sleuth mystery that keeps you guessing with plot twists and turns while making you invest in some layered characters who have your attention from start to finish. The author captures the ambiance of the remote Alaskan wilderness and the Native culture and its people perfectly. They charm their way into your heart with their ordinary lives and salt-of-the-earth personalities. Jonah is a riveting protagonist whose dogged determination to pursue the truth until the end, at the cost of his relationships, will have you rooting for him. Stuart paces the plot well, giving time for the characters to grow and complete their story arcs. I can't emphasize enough how much I enjoyed Raven's Grave. If you love to read sleuth murder mysteries, you won't go wrong with this one.
