Ratheena's Curse is a work of fiction in the epic fantasy and adventure subgenres and is the sequel to The Six Tribes. It is aimed at the young adult reading audience and was penned by author Jenaya Vander Stoep. In this thrilling continuation of the existing series, we return to the adventures of the tribes of the Woodland Forest. Fending off dark magic is something the Six Tribes have had to learn the hard way, so when a dangerous curse rears its head, young warrior Hutch and the timid but determined Mayettay must put their reservations aside and join the others in the search for harmony and hope.
Author Jenaya Vander Stoep captures the youthful spirit of bravery and battling against the world’s evils wonderfully well in this thrilling fantasy novel. I found it easy to pick up the storyline, and I feel that you could dive straight into this world and enjoy the story in its own right, whether you’ve read The Six Tribes or not, as everything is very well explained and the world is atmospherically brilliant and immediately engaging. I enjoyed seeing more dimensions forming as Hutch takes up the hero mantle fully, and Mayettay presents the other side of the coin in a very relatable, more reserved way. I also really enjoyed the plot construction around the central mystery of the Woodland Forest that developed gradually throughout the other exciting episodes, building to a thrilling conclusion that I didn’t see coming, but made perfect sense according to the well-conceived magical lore of the worldbuilding. Overall, I would certainly recommend Ratheena's Curse and the series in general to YA and adult fantasy fans alike.
