Raising Father by M. Lee Fox follows the story of Henry Gilles and his quest to avoid death. Cold, power-hungry, and a tyrant to the core, Henry Gilles loved himself and the business empire he had built for himself. There was nothing that could stop Henry from getting what he wanted. However, when Henry became critically ill, he knew he would die. So he made some strange decisions that baffled his twin daughters Amanda and Gillian. While a disappointment and embarrassment to their father, the two women were promised billions in inheritance if they did what Henry asked them to do. But what he asked them to do was not only strange but downright scary. Can Amanda and Gillian put their past, present, and hatred behind them for a better future? Or would they give up everything and let Henry call them a failure, even in death?
I love absurd literature. There was something so strange yet satisfactory about Raising Father by M. Lee Fox that had me hooked from the beginning. I finished the novel in a single sitting and read it once more to fully grasp what I read. Henry Gilles was a horrid man, someone so obsessed with succeeding that he forgot he had the responsibility of two daughters. His ultimate plan of survival (you will have to read it to know it) was just as shocking as I expected it to be after reading the preface. The narrative was paced just right to make the story interesting without making the reader feel rushed. Amanda’s growth was fantastic, and I loved Gillian’s stubbornness. However, the reactions of both of the sisters were relatable and so perfectly human. I cannot wait for the day when this novel is turned into a movie.
