Rahley the Silent Slug by N.D. Byma is the adorable story of Rahley who lived in a little bug town near a shrub and a rock. Rahley always left for work with a smile on his face after his morning routine. But then Rahley is scared of his own voice and he is scared if he speaks it will sound like a screeching dung beetle and everyone will laugh at him. Rahley only smiles and waves back at those who wish him while going to work. He loves his job and is a happy silent slug till things change one morning...
The story is delightful and kids will love Rahley the slug. The bright and colorful illustrations add to the appeal of the story and give a good pace and movement to the scenes. It's a great bedtime storybook and parents and grandparents can read it out to kids and grandkids. It's also a good story for read aloud sessions in classrooms and school libraries. The message of accepting oneself and being happy with what one has is an uplifting and motivating message for all kids. It helps them accept what they have and also be happy and confident with it.
Stories with a moral, concept, or idea are good for children as it's easier to make them understand when narrating with the help of a story. Rahley the slug's initial hesitancy to speak due to lack of confidence in his voice and then later getting over it is what makes the book reach out to young readers.
