The audio book version of “Priscilla and the Great Santa Search,” written by Nathaniel Hobbie and illustrated by Jocelyn Hobbie, is sure to become a treasured Christmas tradition in your family! After seeing so many Santa Clauses all around as Christmas is approaching, Priscilla and her friend Bettina create a plan to go to the North Pole to find the real Santa Claus as they realize that the ones they see are fake. After having a sleepover and finalizing their plan, the girls set out dressed for the wintry weather and strapped on their skis to go to the North Pole. Along the way they see many sights and encounter a storm too; however, they take pictures and enjoy cookies and hot cocoa. While the storm derails their plans, they see something in one of their pictures that gives them hope and joy for Christmas.
Written in rhyme, the story is catchy and full of fun words and sentences that children and adults will enjoy reading. The words and imagery allow for vivid pictures to be imagined throughout while we listen to the story. This would be great to share with children either before going out shopping or doing “Christmasy” activities or afterwards as there are always questions about seeing so many Santa Clauses and being unable to tell which are real or fake. Priscilla and Bettina are lovable characters who are full of life and fun and children will enjoy spending time with them while listening to this story.
