Bina Trunk watched a show about a princess one night and the next day morning she found Mama Trunk's red silk scarf and tied it around her neck. She also found a sparkly crown and a pair of glittery shoes and felt like a real princess after wearing them. Mama Trunk, Papa Trunk, and her brother Babu Trunk all bowed to her when she came down for breakfast. After breakfast Bina and her brother walked to Grandma Trunk's tea shop. She was treated like a princess by Grandma Trunk and from there they went to Grandpa Trunk's laboratory. He gave her a pair of robotic wings he had made. Would Bina Trunk stay a princess or would she want to become herself again?
Princess for a Day by P. Tomar is an enchanting story that is about being yourself, self-acceptance, and being kind. The illustrations by Giulia lacopini are as magical as the story and they breathe life into the characters and scenes, making them tangible, real, and relatable to young readers. Bina Trunk's makeover to that of a princess is something all girls would like to do once in a while and I like the way in which the author weaves the concept into the plot; effortlessly without making it forced. All the characters in the story are adorable and readers will love them. It is a good storybook for bedtime tales and can be used in classrooms and school libraries for both storytelling and read aloud sessions.
