"Prescriptions from Paradise: Introduction to Biocompatible Medicine An A-to-Z Compendium," by Carlos M. Viana is a book that addresses many common medical conditions. There is a chapter for each letter of the alphabet that begins the term for a medical condition and all of the conditions beginning with that specific letter are contained in the chapter. Furthermore, each medical issue is listed in alphabetical order making this a user-friendly reference book. Some of the conditions addressed in this book are ADHD, addiction, anemia, cancer, childbirth, dehydration, eyesight, hair loss, headaches, urinary tract infection and obesity, to name a few. Each condition is discussed in detail and the types of the condition are addressed as well. Then for each condition there is a section that is "The Biocompatible View" followed by some tips in a "Words of Advice" section.
I thought I would be overwhelmed by this book as it would be packed full of terms that I do not know or understand; however, that was not the case. Also, I was pleasantly surprised as to the everyday or common conditions that were included, for example, headaches. I liked how the book is arranged as it is easy to use and look up a certain condition quickly and easily. I think the "Words of Advice" section is my favorite feature of the book as in this section are included such great and interesting tips! I also liked that the author included a section at the end of the book that focuses on a patient's viewpoint. This is an interesting read and one that should be considered for anyone who wishes to try a different approach to treating and dealing with a specific medical condition.
