Pony Wins the Best of the Best by Rachelle Jones Smith and illustrated by Mykhailo Ridkous is an inspiring story of a young girl in a wheelchair with a dog named Pony who is invited to compete in a pet show. Lin spends lots of time teaching Pony new tricks to impress the judges. She pulls out all the stops using every book she can think of to find the perfect tricks and the perfect talent to showcase how fast, agile, and smart Pony is. But will Pony be ready in time for the pet show? Will their hard work and dedication help them put on a great display? How will they place against the other competitors?
Pony Wins the Best of the Best by Rachelle Jones Smith is an adorable story encouraging kids to work hard to achieve their goals. Lin and Pony are relatable characters that inspire kids to be creative and persistent and enjoy healthy competition. The illustrations by Mykhailo Ridkous are beautiful and go along with the story as it rhymes its way through the plot. I love how it also delivers an important message about being inclusive of people with disabilities. I recommend this story to anyone with young children who love a sweet and inspiring tale. Smith has crafted a wonderful picture book that I have no doubt will become a childhood favorite for kids everywhere.
