Polish Dragon P. I. (The Lineage Sword) is an urban sleuth story inspired by Chinese mythology. Written by Steve Zimcosky, the novella follows private investigator Tom Sipowicz, a.k.a., The Polish Dragon, as he finds himself entangled in the disappearance of Paul Lee, a young man of Taiwanese ancestry who disappears with a family heirloom after his father's death. It is Paul's sister Cindy who asks for Tom's help in uncovering the mystery. Tom and Cindy's search takes them to the city of Jiufen in Taiwan, where Cindy's estranged uncle Yu reaffirms his claim on the ancient sword. But not everything is as it seems. Meanwhile, Paul and his girlfriend Meiling seek to fulfill an ancient prophecy involving the Waiting Warriors and a second ancient sword. In the US, Tom seeks help from his CIA contact Karl Shad in tracking down Paul.
A fast-paced adventure mystery that never takes its foot off the pedal, Polish Dragon P. I. (The Lineage Sword) is enrapturing to read. Steve Sipowicz's tightly plotted novella doesn't waste a single word as the narrative contains a fascinating blend of ancient Chinese mythology along with some contemporary sleuth elements. I found the descriptions of Jiufen mesmerizing, and the illustrations provided in the book only add to the beauty of the narrative. I also loved the chemistry between Tom and Cindy, and every scene involving the pair of them together was a joy to read. Anyone interested in a well-written mystery containing some mythological elements should enjoy Polish Dragon P. I. (The Lineage Sword). I did, and I would heartily recommend it.
