Poems From the Gospel According to Ruth: A Season of Harvest by Kevin Foster is made up of 121 daily devotionals which consist of short Bible scriptures and also include the pick of the crop, the author's brief synopsis of the scripture. This Christian work is inspirational as well as motivational because the ultimate purpose of the devotional is that God will provide. It was a comforting read because all the different scriptures allowed you to understand that there is a plan for everyone's life.
Devotional number 53 was most remarkable to me because it speaks of how special each person is, and how the Lord created everyone in His image. Sometimes it can be hard for people to understand their unique qualities when comparing themselves to others. "Then she fell on her face, and bowed herself to the ground, and said unto him, 'Why have I found grace in thine eyes, that thou shouldest take knowledge of me, seeing I am a stranger?'" This verse is particularly well written because, even though she was a stranger she took comfort in knowing that God was a comfort to her. Love and favor are available for all when God is sought in everyday situations.
I enjoyed reading the inspirational short scriptures and messages. This work by Kevin Foster is very easy to read and understand. It's also especially convenient that there are places available to make notes throughout the work. This book would be good for a book club because readers could compare ideas and interpret Bible verses and make connections by comparison.
