Planet G by Jerry Underhill is an engaging science fiction tale about a group of pioneer colonists on a planet, called Planet G, which is teeming with strange lifeforms. The story follows a man named Huston who makes the first contact with some peaceful alien lifeforms. Another group of aliens is later discovered that appear to be less peaceful. Huston and the other humans - who have been sent to the planet to determine if it is suitable for humans to live there - aren’t sure what to make of the various lifeforms. Their inability to communicate with most of the aliens that they’ve come in contact with eventually leads to trouble. Soon, the investigative team finds themselves caught in the middle of a conflict between alien species.

Planet G is a very thoughtful book that causes its reader to ponder what it would truly be like for mankind to visit another planet that has a different ecosystem. A planet with similar trees and rivers and mountains like Earth but none of the same lifeforms. On that level, Planet G succeeds in bringing its readers into a very realistic situation. The main cast of characters is easy to relate to and quite likable for the most part. The story that we’re given by Jerry Underhill is well-written, using language that is almost poetic in its descriptions and narrative. Overall, Planet G is an entertaining and thought-provoking science fiction story. It’s also the beginning of a series of books about the colonists' experiences on the strange but fascinating world of Planet G.

Jerry Underhill introduces us to a fantastic new planet through the eyes of a spiritual leader. The eloquently written words of the author help us easily imagine the world Houston and the others have been thrust into. Landing in the middle of a conflict between the planets indigenous species, the human explorers are faced with making decisions they neither were expecting nor prepared for. The book is a real page turner, having read it in just two sittings. Good luck putting it down once you’ve started!

I couldn't put this page-turner down. I read it in one sitting, and then I read it again a few days later. I rarely read science fiction, but Planet G is credible, thoughtful and well-written. immerses the reader in a thought-provoking tale about planetary colonization, communication with alien intelligence, and humans - some motivated by corporate greed and others who question the ethics of colonization. Well written and philosophically engaging.

A wonderful and haunting journey. Was truly engrossed in Jerry Underhill's fantastic world - cannot wait for the next one.

I am not much of an Outer Space reader, but I am certainly glad I read this book. Deep thinking on the complexity of the Human mind as they search for life on another Planet. Definitely a page turner, I couldn't wait to figure out just where he was and which Creature was going to interact with the Human. Excellent writing style, the Author draws you into his main Character, until you want to know him better, and be with him as he goes around that next corner. I will be waiting for the next book in this series.

Initially i found it disjointed as it swung from what is to what was in memory, a lot of between instances moments. A typical alien invasion on an inhabited planet. After warnings the inhabitants attacked to defend their home. The descriptions of scenery and landscape they were travelling through were very well written and i could see them in my minds eye.

Still Human is an immersive book that takes you into an alien world, but not the one you expect. The book follows Huston, who is deeply connected to all around him and this adds an extra layer to the story that most books lack. Following Huston’s in depth thoughts on nature and spirituality makes this fictional story connect to me on a deep level. I absolutely loved it and am on to book 2. Aliens and spirituality is a duo that I feel makes this book exceptional.

This book offers a totally immersive view into the thoughts, experiences, and conflicts of a pioneer exploring a new world. The author creates a world that you can connect with in a spiritual way - whether with the cultures, beings, or nature. Huston’s gentle persona gives the reader a unique perspective in this fantasy adventure, and I appreciated experiencing the tale from his thoughtful viewpoint. It gave a different perspective on what some pioneers may have gone through in the past and I enjoyed the subtle historical connections. I can’t wait for the next one!

This story has a dreamlike quality to it - punctuated by startled moments, and then quickly dissolving again into semi-lucid observation. I appreciated the philosophical and spiritual approaches to this rendering of "alien encounters," but would have appreciated it more had we actually learned anything about them... but, I suppose that is the point. What could we really know of a truly alien intelligence, with only our human perception and cognition to apply toward interpretations...?

Janine

This book reminds me of the older style writers like Robert Heinlein. It feels slower paced, and yet a lot happens. The parallels and comparisons between the new planet and earth are very interesting. Even though the main character is a pastor, the book is not religious, but spiritual in his beliefs and thought processes. The indigenous species are very different from us and each other, and there is some great mystery on top of discovering two different intelligent species that they missed in their survey of the planet. I can't wait to continue the next book to discover just what is happening on Planet G

Wow! Great space action adventure. Just blasted through it. Thank goodness I have the second book so that I don't have to wait to find out what happens next! #forvoraciousreadersonly
