Pies to Die For: How to Live a Vibrant Life Despite a Fatal Diagnosis by Carole Weaver is a treasure trove of creative advice for people dealing with a terminal illness. The author herself was diagnosed with metastatic cancer in 2016. As a survivor, she shares how she dealt with her illness. It has more to offer than just helping you to maximize the quality of your life. By showing and not just telling, Weaver demonstrates how to still find rhyme and reason in your life regardless of what stage your illness is at. Her husband’s work in appraising those who have lost art through debt, divorce, or disaster is immensely instrumental in creating this health book.
Improving the quality of life is a major challenge for most people who are facing a terminal illness. Pies to Die For is written with strong empathy that you cannot find in the impersonal diagnosis of medical experts. As a first-hand account, you can feel the courage in Carole Weaver’s tone with an occasional touch of humor that shows you everything is all right and that you still have the ability to smell the roses. It also serves as a workbook, providing you with questionnaires for each chapter at the end of the book that you can use in group discussions. These questions range from the objective to the personal, allowing you to cover a wide spectrum in understanding the challenge you face. This is a compassionate and caring work that deserves to be read by anyone facing an illness or who knows someone who is.
