Passage (Soul of the Witch Book 1) by C. Marie Bowen is a paranormal love story. Passage starts with a powerful scene where Courtney Veau finds herself in the hospital and face to face with a man from her past, Merrill Shilo. Is he an apparition? A ghost? As Courtney realizes what has happened, the story unfolds when we learn that Courtney has been in a car accident and has experiences from her past life in the Mid-West from the post-Civil War era. She comes away with the realization that Merrill was and is the love of her life and they are soulmates. As the story progresses, we learn more about Nichole Harris, her life, and her romance with Merrill. All of this makes for a suspense-filled plot filled with visions from the past, the idea of soulmates, reincarnation, and much more as the soulmates unite, only to be broken apart, to be united again, and so the cycle continues.
Passage (Soul of the Witch Book 1) is a simply told, powerful love story with elements of the supernatural, past lives, re-birth, etc. I liked the idea of soulmates and C. Marie Brown has portrayed it in a simple, yet authentic way. I loved all of the Mid-West scenes with their vast landscapes and could really picture myself there. The central characters are well drawn and the character of Merrill is especially fascinating to me as he struggles to understand and cope with reality. This is a great read and I am certainly looking forward to Part II in the series.
