Colbert. The book is a biography of a group of twelve African American women living in the USA in which the subjects candidly share their life stories with the reader. With the focus of the author on the experiences and stories which are shared by humans regardless of race and creed, the book aims to provide a unifying vision of what it means to be alive in the world today.
Ordinary Extraordinary African American Women: As We Mature is a powerful tale of twelve African American women’s ability to thrive in the face of adversity, and one which I enjoyed diving into again and again. I found that having twelve different voices from different walks of life added depth and variety to the book and, rather than becoming overwhelming, each personality and story is woven logically into the next to make a powerful unifying message. One of the things that I liked most about this read was the overall message of hope and that you can create positive change in your life, regardless of any external factors. Author Stephana I. Colbert has crafted a deep, emotional, and important collection of stories that will take you on a ride filled with relatable and extraordinary experiences, each of which is sure to teach and empower you. Overall, I would not hesitate to recommend this book to those who are looking to develop their understanding of other people’s experiences, and fans of learning about the lives of others.
