In 1944, to ensure peace after the Second World War, the leaders of a broken and shattered world came together to form the Coalition. Nationalism was seen as a crime, and the whole world was united under the Coalition. There are no more fractured states and multiple nationalities or languages, only the Coalition and its unifying language. The population is controlled through aggression inhibitors, drugs, and implants to manipulate memories. Henry Stasik, an Internal Affairs agent, becomes entangled in a conspiracy that reaches so wide it seems unfathomable. An assassin is hunting for Henry and the witness in his protection. Little does he realize how deeply she is connected to the creation of the Coalition. As Henry searches for the truth, he is pulled into a violent race to reach Moscow with his witness and her evidence intact. Operation Brushfire by Rhett C Bruno and James Wolanyk is an exhilarating adrenaline ride from the first page to the last.
Operation Brushfire by Rhett C Bruno and James Wolanyk is brilliantly written, a book that you do not want to put down or, in this case, turn off. It is a wonderful New Adult dystopian novel that gives a scary view of what could happen when the population is controlled and lives in a utopia. Ironically, people need to be controlled and killed to preserve peace. The level of violence required turns the agents of the Coalition into virtual machines. Bruno has written a literary gem that touches on different themes, such as war and the toll it takes on the individuals who do the killing, the danger in the relentless search for truth, and the utopian bliss that can be found in memory altering drugs. This is a must-read for sci-fi fans.
Lou Diamond Phillips and Podium Audio have once again delivered a production that is easy to listen to and which draws you into the world of the Coalition. It is a powerful and believable performance that will leave the reader wanting to keep on listening. The various characters are presented authentically, and it is hard to believe that only one person is narrating the book. Well done on an audiobook done with professionalism and dedication to the art of narrating.
