Alice had immigrated to the USA with her parents, and she was now a doctor, though with many doubts about what made a good doctor. Good health is a multifactorial issue influenced by internal factors such as the brain and the environment. The environment could encompass the surrounding nature or faraway things like the moon and sun. Alicia was comfortable exploring astrology because it had rules and could not be manipulated easily, and her experiences with Sam and Jacy were incredible. Open For Interpretation by Alicia Blando MD is a wonderfully written, thought-provoking book that made me look at things differently. With the rise in cases of lifestyle diseases and the lack of answers on some issues by conventional medicine, I believe it's time we looked at the role of complementary and alternative medicine in the care and outcomes of patients. I loved how Alicia, despite being a trained medical doctor, approached different healing techniques with an open mind. Alicia also captures other issues, such as religion, and the vivid description of her experiences, from being a medical practitioner to her adventures in South America, made the book a wealth of information and entertaining. The characters used to tell the story are also well-developed and contributed immensely as the flawlessly flowing narrative unfolded. I cannot wait to read something else from this talented author.
