As the sixth mass extinction event is getting ever closer, and the inevitable end of the human race becomes impossible to avoid, what action can we take moving forward? Guy R. McPherson, a professor of conservation biology, shows by using scientific research how people's survival relies on other species and with their habitats slowly being depleted, it is a natural cause and effect that homo sapiens will cease to exist too. So, knowing this information, we can investigate how, as humans, we can learn to appreciate the little time we have left on this earth. How can we live a life that is full of gratitude for the little things, pursue excellence, and not chase material wealth for temporary security. The professor's radical views have caused much backlash from those who prefer to live in blissful ignorance. If you are ready to live a life that is truly liberating and honest, that is when true fulfilment is possible.
Only Love Remains by Guy R. McPherson is a brutally honest investigation into the results of climate change from years of ignoring the signs that the earth's temperature is rising at a frightening speed. The professor is candid in his approach yet this is definitely not a book full of woe, but enlightenment into how we can free ourselves from the shackles of society. You have no choice but to question why you are here on this earth and why you are not following your passions. The research is easily explained and absolutely fascinating. I found the hostile repercussions to the professor's research not surprising, as most of us live in a state of ignorance and our priorities are quite shallow. This is a book this is well-written, from the heart, and full of thought-provoking information. I truly believe once you have read this book you will change your views drastically and work towards waking every morning with a strong sense of gratitude and purpose.
