Ollie and the Egg-Splosion is Book 2 in The Owllama Series by Kim Wilson. Ollie often gets upset whenever he’s called Owlivier, especially when he goes to night school. When this happens, an owl hoot and llama spit fly out of his mouth with a “Pah-hoo!” sound. Why does he have such an awful name? Ollie can’t wait for his baby sister to hatch and looks forward to being a big brother. Then his mother relates their family history of the owls and the llamas that became friends and why he was named Owlivier after his great-uncle. This brought a new change to Ollie's perspective, but he begins to worry if his baby sister will also get an odd name like his. Maybe he can do something about that.
I hope you like your name, or do you have a nickname like Ollie? This is a delightful novella by Kim Wilson. The characters are adorable, but I wouldn’t stand too close to Ollie when he gets upset. “Pah-hoo!” Kim Wilson writes imaginatively and Ollie’s family history is proof of that, as well as the witty title. The illustrations by Ashley Belote made me smile a lot too. Ollie and the Egg-Splosion is the second book in The Owllama Series by this author. She includes a Vocabulary Section, a Knock, Knock Joke and Comprehension Questions about the story at the back of the novella. It will entertain and educate children of the preschool and kindergarten ages and is recommended.
