“Old Friends” by Sally Jenkins is this author’s second anthology, with 13 award-winning short stories, following closely on the heels of the successful publication of “One Day for Me”, her collection of 8 award-winning shorts. “Old Friends” is another very pleasurable read, sure to invoke a wide range of emotions from the reader. My personal favorite was the second story in this book. It is called 'Please Hold' and it had me laughing like a hyena at the end. If ever there was a case of someone getting what they deserve . . . But I digress. "Old Friends" is sub-titled “13 Coffee Break Stories” because so many of the stories herein can be read during a typical work-day coffee break. If you are someone who likes to read during your coffee break, this will make an excellent addition to your collection of coffee break books. Beware, though: your co-workers may wonder why you are sitting in the corner laughing all by yourself! I stated above that my personal favorite is the story 'Please Hold', but in all fairness I have to confess that all the stories are potential contenders for the enviable designation “favorite story”.
Sally Jenkins was born to write. She is a natural story-teller, with an almost supernatural talent for the proverbial “twist at the end” of her stories. Having very recently read both of her short story compilations (to date), I can recommend her without reservation. She will entertain and amuse you with each tale she has written. You will understand why so many of the tales she has written have won awards; they are all good, commendable examples of the writer’s craft. Get a copy of “Old Friends” today, and prepare to be entertained.
