Not An Ordinary Death is a work of murder mystery fiction penned by author Sharon Scarborough. Filled with intrigue and deeply buried secrets that are tough to uncover, the central action centers around Ranger Oz Nightingale. When Oz discovers a body at a construction site, he has little to go on besides the feeling that something isn’t right about the way the guy died. His cousins are acquainted with the deceased, and when they agree, Oz begins an instinctual search for the truth and discovers those along the way who would rather keep it very deeply under wraps. What follows is an exciting and dangerous mystery novel filled with suspense and clue-finding.

Author Sharon Scarborough knows how to build an atmosphere of tension and suspicion very well, and it’s this powerful sensation that keeps us on Oz’s shoulder throughout the novel, even when it seems there’s very little to go on. As Oz works through his feelings about the case, so we are introduced to the sinister world of Edgar Post and his ruthless billionaire empire. The plot is well constructed to give the clues away little by little, which comes back around in a very satisfying way when we reach the novel’s conclusions later on. Character development is also very well handled in the central figures of the story. I particularly enjoyed the uncovering of Post’s murky past and how it informs his character throughout. Overall, Not An Ordinary Death delivers just what it promises: a fun and intriguing mystery for all to enjoy.

Ranger Oz Nightingale is the main character in Not An Ordinary Death by Sharon Scarborough. He is working on two cases at the same time and the more he investigates the more they appear to be connected to each other. While checking out his cousins Portia and Imogene’s new home, he finds the body of a young workman that has fallen off the roof of their new under-construction house. The cousins recognize the young man and ask Nightingale to find out how this could have happened. Ranger Nightingale works for the Governor and when she asks him to investigate a new and suspicious very rich resident, Edgar Post, who is interested in getting involved in her work, he now finds himself with two important cases. Nightingale quickly begins to find clues that might connect both the roofer and possible wrongdoings of Edgar Post together. Along with his friend Garrick, his old Ranger partner and friend, they find themselves, a beloved dog and the cousins in dangerous situations that put them in serious trouble.

Not An Ordinary Death by Sharon Scarborough is a very good murder mystery/detective tale and a story about family and friendship. I found a high level of suspense, excitement, and emotions as I read Not An Ordinary Death. Sharon Scarborough is a talented author who left me sad that the book was over and I can only hope that there will be a followup soon. Not An Ordinary Death would be a perfect TV movie and in my mind, I have already picked out the cast. I believe that this intriguing murder mystery is a book worth reading.

Texas Ranger Oz Nightingale is checking on the construction of the home that two of his cousins are building when he comes across a dead body on the patio. It appears to be a tragic roofing accident until one of his cousins says she knew the man, and he expressed concerns that his life was in danger. What's more, the man claimed to be the son of a prominent hedge fund consultant named Edgar Post, who built a mansion and compound just behind the emerging housing development. Things become stranger when the Governor calls Oz to ask about Mr. Post, and the autopsy reveals that the deceased was injected with poison before he fell from the roof. Not an Ordinary Death by Sharon Scarborough is a complex murder mystery with enough twists and turns to keep you guessing until the last page.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and found it intriguing. All the characters, from Ranger Nightingale to his cousins, partners, and even the cold Edgar Post, were well developed and interesting. I found myself wanting to know more about their complex relationships and felt that another mystery was unwinding as I got to know each character. What's more, is that it's a multi-layered mystery with many threads that intertwine as the story unfolds. Not an Ordinary Death is a great example of the ideal mystery novel and will keep readers engaged and curious until the very end. Sharon Scarborough has done a wonderful job of crafting a great story that mystery lovers will thoroughly enjoy.
