Northern Blood is a work of fiction in the historical, military, and action subgenres, and was penned by author Daniel Greene. The work is intended for the general adult reading audience and contains scenes of accurate war violence. In this, the third book of the Northern Wolf Series, we find ourselves facing the Confederacy with the plucky immigrant soldier Johannes Wolf and his band of unlikely heroes. A mission to force a prominent figure on the battlefield involves a dangerous kidnap mission, and Wolf and his unit are the only ones wild enough to try it or die in the process. What results is a highly engrossing American Civil War adventure tale that is sure to keep readers turning the pages from cover to cover.
Author Daniel Greene has crafted a very immersive and exciting work of fiction with plenty of action, deception, strategy, and hijinks to offer its readers. One of the things I love most about this book is the fact that not only does it accurately portray details, values, and the mood of the American Civil War, but it also manages to make it feel more real and current by connecting us emotionally to its unique cast of non-typical characters. The dialogue was also effective, serving to display the unique traits of the characters, their attitudes, humor, and historical setting while moving the plot forward in a natural way to divulge crucial information in an easy format. Overall, I would highly recommend Northern Blood to fans of atmospheric and immersive Civil War fiction, likable characters with fantastic dialogue, and for historical military novel enthusiasts everywhere.
