The Pacific was a cruise ship, once equipped to carry thousands of passengers. Now it’s just a drifting tomb carrying a deadly plague. Unexpectedly, a distress signal is received and a damaged shuttle arrives at The Pacific. Nia finds the crew hard to trust, but the shuttle might be the way out of the ship for her and her severely stricken sister, Leelee. However, things are not what they seem. The shuttle crew has a mission and didn’t board The Pacific merely by luck. Nia has to help them if she wants to save what she holds most dear.
No Port to Land (Law and Crucible Saga, Book 1) by Ioana Visan is a haunting space opera where the instinct to survive can eradicate the basic moral principles that society is supposed to uphold. Nia knows how to survive the deplorable living state of The Pacific. With her sick sister as her source of courage, it was easy to root for her at every step of the way. The backstory of how the outbreak started is evidently vital to the gritty plot. The elements of mystery and horror incorporated into the story are well done.
Having read Visan’s Broken People, I was looking forward to reading her work in a different genre and No Port to Land didn’t disappoint me. Visan’s engaging and clear cut trademark prose propels the readability of the story. I look forward to joining Nia on her journey again, and getting to know more about Captain Law and his crew.
