Christa Carpenter is a mother, a teacher, and a writer. Since childhood she has enjoyed writing plays, poetry, and stories. "Nicholas, That’s Ridiculous!" is her first published picture book. Christa lives in Maitland, Florida, with her two children, Nicholas and Jillian, and their funny dog, Eddie.
"Jilli, That's Silly!", second story in Christa's six book series, is set to release fall of 2011. Her success is not only reflected in her personal life, but also through her writings as well.

Nicholas That’s Ridiculous! by Christa Carpenter is illustrated by Mark Wayne Adams. The cover of this book will immediately catch the attention of children. It depicts Nicholas skateboarding down a slide attached to a tree. His dog is sitting close by, and his mother smiles as she watches from a distance. This book allows readers to follow Nicholas throughout a day as he tries some rather ridiculous things: drinking from the faucet, eating like his dog from his plate, using too much soap, drawing a picture with two heads, and having a chocolate face. Every time he does something silly his mother says, with a smile, "Nicholas that’s ridiculous."
Our children are always doing things that may seem silly to us but to them is a great adventure. As adults we should encourage our children to experience life, to experiment with adventures. Nicholas's mother always had a smile when she said, “Nicholas that’s ridiculous.” She encouraged him and inspired him. At bedtime she told him having fun was never ridiculous.
The back of this book has discussion questions. Christa Carpenter offers parents a marvelous tool for opening dialogue with their children. Carpenter encourages readers to look at their own lives and see the times when they did something ridiculous. Sometimes ridiculous things are the most fun. Perhaps as parents and grandparents we should learn from our children how to have fun. We get too serious and forget the joy of laughter. Of course there are times when we all need to be serious, but I think I’ll embrace the times when I can be just like Nicholas the Ridiculous.
