Nevin is the colorful history of two strategically located towns that once took prominence in the Mendocino County in Northern California: Kibesillah described as “a neat looking little village” and Newport, “which comprises a general merchandise store and some other buildings belonging to Messrs.” In this slim but well-researched and beautifully written book, readers are introduced to two breathtaking and picturesque towns, their history and geography, accompanied by wonderful pictures and illustrations, all delectable to behold.
Within a period of thirty years, spanning from the late 1860s to the early 1900s, there was great hope for these isolated towns with a promise in the timber industry, but that promise was fulfilled elsewhere in Fort Bragg, a few miles from Newport and Kibesillah, because of the difficult terrain. In this book, the author shares the legacy of these two towns, feeding the curiosity of readers with beautiful tales passed on from generation to generation by those who loved the place and those whose forebears lived in the towns.
