In K.B. Shaw’s Neworld Papers Series 1: The Historian's Tale, Fallon is a boy without a family but with an extraordinary talent that the Movement wants. In a few weeks, when Fallon comes of age, he will be a free man, but that was halted when pages from some Solarist propaganda were found in his room. The Movement made their move by buying Fallon from the school where he works. Thrust into an undertaking that he doesn't even understand, Fallon just goes with the flow. He soon learns that the Movement may be seeking the truth that the Council, some sort of board or government in the Neworld, tries very hard to hide from the people. Fallon decides how he will use his talent to help the Movement and be their first historian.
With so many books coming out, one would think that nothing is original anymore; well, I give you Neworld Papers Series 1: The Historian's Tale. It is ironic how Neworld is a place that is kind of a descendant of Earth and is set sometime in the future. It is a throwback to the past with ancient rules and codes added. Some concepts seemed old-fashioned but at the same are encountered only in this story. Characters were likable and the story was graceful. Fallon and his crew embarked on adventures that K.B. Shaw described in very specific detail; it was like watching it all happen. Reading this novel was intriguing and there were so many secrets that were just beginning to unravel in this first book. Reading the next books in the series will definitely be just as exciting.
