There are many beautiful things that one can find in nature and DA Batrowny captures them in My First Nature Book. I love the sight of acorns collecting on the ground in mid-summer and the sounds they make when they drop or are scattered by squirrels and chipmunks. Wildflowers add a colorful carpet, wherever the space and natural sunlight allow. Mushrooms and moss, hills and mountains, stones, rocks, rivers, oceans, and so much more. The world is full of natural wonders and magnificent vistas. Not only will young readers learn new words, but they will also learn interesting facts. The pictures themselves tell a story of their own and will open up the mind to the wonders of nature.
DA Batrowny’s picture book, My First Nature Book, is one of the many My First Book Series that introduces children to interesting things in the world around them. Using simple language, the author introduces another way to help improve reading skills and vocabulary. Each sentence states a fact about something exciting to be found in nature. The text is accompanied by bright, colorful photographs to inspire the learning mind. For example, a vivid picture of a stash of acorns is accompanied by the simple complex sentence: “Acorns are nuts that grow on oak trees.” This is an engaging, fun, and fact-filled book to share with the eager, inquisitive young reader.
