"My Dearest Naomi" is the story of Eugene Mast and his dearest, Naomi Miller. Leaving his Amish community in Indiana to teach at a Mennonite school in Iowa, Eugene leaves the girl he has been wanting to marry for a long nine months. During this time of separation, Eugene and Naomi write letters to each other, expressing their feelings of love and their longing and desire to see each other again. So the entire book is letters to and from these two young Amish people who are so much in love. And once in a while you also will find a poem or two written by one of them.
Although this is in a format different from that of any book I have read, I enjoyed the letters between Eugene and Naomi. The letters are well-thought-out and written. This book is interesting enough to keep you reading as is every book written by Jerry. And I found it interesting to read their thoughts for each other and to learn their day to day activities. And the unique thing about "My Dearest Naomi" is that the letters are based on letters sent between Jerry and his wife, Tina, while separated during Jerry’s tenure at a Mennonite school. If you want a clean, light and sweet read, then you will thoroughly enjoy Naomi and Eugene’s story. I encourage you to pick up your copy soon to read and enjoy. You will surely not be disappointed!
