Murder LLC is the second book in the Scott Brody Thriller series by Bryan Cassiday, and it is a spellbinding story that follows a private detective as he weaves through a deadly plot to locate a missing person. Damian Playa is manipulated into a dangerous job in a Las Vegas casino, threatened that his girlfriend and mother will be gang-raped and killed if he doesn’t do the simple job assigned to him. Damian loses everything, unable to buy the $400,000 worth of chips and to cash out. So, he disappears, and his sister, Araceli, hires Scott Brody, a private investigator, to track him down. What initially seems like a typical missing person case quickly morphs into a dangerous game involving the mafia, dirty cops, the CIA, and hitmen. It seems like many people want to find Damian, and they are ready to crush anyone who comes in between.
This compelling story is expertly written, and Bryan Cassiday’s protagonist is a genuinely flawed private investigator who has epilepsy, a character that readers will naturally root for. As I read about him, I had the same experience while reading about Cormoran Strike in J.K. Rowling’s crime thriller series. The characters are relatable, multilayered, and unforgettable. I loved Damian’s sister and the way she is written, and while she has very low esteem for her brother’s professional skills, she doesn’t want the police to know if he has gotten into something terrible. The plot is twisty, and it features an impactful conflict. This author’s trademark is for dazzling prose and exceptional storytelling. Murder LLC is for readers who love intricate, character-driven mysteries with a fascinating setting.
