Sheriff JD Pickens’s department faced overwhelming challenges. One of their deputies was killed by a gunshot, and there was a double homicide to investigate. Sheriff Pickens had no choice but to divide his remaining deputies into two teams, and he asked for assistance from two retired homicide detectives. His wife, Dr. Marge Davids, was the county’s Medical Examiner; she and her team provided needed forensic evidence. The investigation took them across county lines, and other departments were instrumental in identifying the killers. In Murder Knows No Boundaries: A JD Pickens Mystery, written by George Encizo, a puzzling case is solved by a strong motivation to avenge the deputy’s killing, as well as meticulous, cooperative legwork.
Murder Knows No Boundaries captures the reader’s interest from the first page and holds it throughout the book. The writing is clear and concise, and the storyline moves along at a fast pace. One compelling feature is the examination of the emotional aspects the sheriff's deputies must handle, especially when one of their own is killed. Two of the deputies seek counseling after displays of anger and frustration. The impact of these emotions is also revealed in the personal relationships of the deputies. Not only does this add a realistic tone to the story, but it shows the human impact of working in perilous situations. How Sheriff JD and his wife Marge maintain a loving relationship, while also interacting within their professional fields, is fascinating to watch. Author George Encizo has written a thrilling murder mystery in Murder Knows No Boundaries. An excellent read!
