Amelia "Ame" Grace is ready for the most exciting week of her career: she's booked three shows and a live DVD-filming for the comeback tour of none other than the Pop Rock Prince himself, Bobby Glitter! Before the rock star can take a bow on the first night, however, disaster strikes as the concert venue's owner takes a deadly tumble from atop the venue's tower. The police suspect foul play and Ame finds herself in a race against time to get to the truth before the killer has a go at her.
I loved the vibe of Murder at Castle Rock by Anne Marie Stoddard which was all sex (drugs) and rock and roll. What a great premise for a book! I think this is a really cool setting and it was written and described very well. Anyone interested in music or the music scene, partying, bars, or rock and roll will really appreciate this cool mystery, and people that aren't will be by the time they finish this novel. There isn't a better setting for a murder mystery and this one is written so well it feels like you are a part of the music scene, not just an outsider looking in.
I also liked how the murder hit so close to home that none of the characters knew exactly who was involved. Because the police think someone on the inside had a hand in the murder, there is so much rampant paranoia it is hard for the characters to know who to trust! This is great for the reader as well, because we suspect everyone and read each character with a critical eye. Having that sense of danger on each page is great and makes for an interesting read because you want to keep turning those pages to find out exactly who had motive, who had access, and who you can trust. I loved that sense of urgency within the pages and thought that was very well written and a clever addition.
