Mrs. Morgan Rescues…Two Parrots! is a fun children’s story written by Bonnie Jo Davis that teaches valuable pet care lessons as well. Mrs. Morgan retired to spend time working with animal rescue. She lives with her dog Cinnamon and one day she receives a phone call about two African Grey parrots that are in need of a home and someone to care for them. Mrs. Morgan calls her neighbor Bree to come meet the parrots, Chloe and Candy, and to help care for them as she loves animals. Mrs. Morgan takes Chloe and Candy to a school to visit the children and to teach them about the parrots. One day Martin Short, who owns a pet store, calls Mrs. Morgan and wants to adopt the parrots to keep them in the store to help make shopping more fun. When the birds are adopted, Mrs. Morgan is then ready to help the next animal in need.
Mrs. Morgan Rescues…Two Parrots! is a nice story that is also educational. Bonnie Jo Davis does an excellent job of tying in facts and lessons in a story that is enjoyable for children. There are beautiful pictures as well. Animal rescue is defined in terms that children will understand and good care of animals is described. For example, Mrs. Morgan uses proper cages for the animals, lays cloths on the floor, takes the parrots for a checkup, and talks quietly to help the parrots adjust to the individuals around them and get used to their mannerisms. She also explains why the parrots have lost some of their feathers. This is an excellent book and a wonderful series to share with children as they are enjoyable to read, educational, and will spark their interest in animals and encourage proper care of animals.
