Cameron has enough on her plate with her two teenagers and a live-in mother repeatedly encouraging her to start dating. However, her job as a private detective at Penny-wise Investigations is quite engaging. One day, a client appoints her to keep an eye on her niece, Tilly. Enamored with the leader of a mysterious cult called the Full Moon Society, Tilly has agreed to be the sacrifice in an ancient ritual performed under the moonlight. Fearful for Tilly's safety, Cameron and her partner keep vigil during the ceremony, only to find Tilly missing afterward. Instead, they stumble upon a dead body. The situation quickly escalates when the law enforcers suspect the detectives of foul play. Can Cameron solve the mystery and protect Tilly? Read Moonlight Can Be Deadly, the fourth book of the Discount Detective series by Charlotte Stuart.
I thoroughly enjoyed this detective novel, which could be read as a standalone despite belonging to a series. It had a smooth, fast-paced plot with several unforeseen twists. Although the story was plot-centric, I loved how Stuart took the utmost care to detail the distinct characters of each detective. Cameron’s level-headed personality complemented Yuri’s boisterous nature, making them perfect partners. I admired Cameron for her ability to handle both the home front and the workplace, always sporting an inherently kind persona. The subtle humor Stuart generously sprinkled throughout made the story even more enjoyable. The mystery surrounding the Full Moon Society and their moonlight rituals had me captivated. I recommend Moonlight Can Be Deadly to anyone who loves a sleuth story or a cozy mystery.
