Moon Puppets by Baxter B. Bramatti is the story of an ambitious little girl named Flora. One evening her dad put on a puppet show for her with his hands and a bright flashlight. Flora loved the shadow puppets and it inspired her to put on a moon puppet show, using her hands, the sun’s light, and the moon as her wall. Alas, her plan was not as easy as it seemed to put into action, but does that stop Flora? No! With the help of her supportive parents, she creates a tower tall enough to implement her plan. So now she can put on her moon puppet show for the people below.
I love Flora Figglesworth! What a wonderful character that Baxter B. Bramatti has created. She is a strong, creative, determined, and unique little girl who comes up with a plan and finds a way to implement it despite suffering some setbacks along the way. Taylor J Graham has brought her to life with her striking blue hair and a purple shirt with a star. Moon Puppets is a story that celebrates creativity and demonstrates to kids that making your dreams come true is not always achieved on the first try. I think Moon Puppets would be a great story to include in a Moon storytime with the Eric Carle book, Papa Please Get the Moon for Me. I love the nod to the space program at the end. Moon Puppets will also inspire kids to create their own shadow puppets. Here's hoping we see more of Flora Figglesworth soon!
