Missionary: Saving Fearful by S.O. Fidimaye chronicles the author's fears and apprehensions in spite of growing up in an Islamic family and reading the Quran daily. The Yoruba people are known to have a god for almost anything and the author speaks about how all the gods failed to put to rest the fears plaguing him. The gloomy days of 1998 are mentioned and he speaks about how on the dreaded day of the battle, the entire town of Ile-Ife was bombarded with bullets. The author speaks of how he faced his fears by killing demons in adventure games, fighting devilish game characters, or winning a competitive soccer game. He writes about meeting Ayobami at the university and getting introduced to Christianity, and how the Christian faith slowly started appealing to him, and how he also started reading philosophical books where he was acquainted with the teachings of Socrates, Aristotle, Plato, etc.
S.O. Fidimaye's journey from Nigeria to the United States for further missionary studies at Hartland College is engaging and encouraging and his own experiences between good and evil are highlighted in this memoir. He is honest and straightforward as he shares his life story with readers. The influence of the Bible, Bible documentaries, Christian music, and Christian teachings is palpable to readers as they turn the pages of this memoir. Missionary: Saving Fearful is also a story of courage, strength, and faith that God wanted to take him to a point of great service and surrender.
