Can cows do yoga? Can cows meditate? Find out in this delightful new book in the Zooples series. Mindful Mao, the Happy Cow by Stephanie Blau opens with our cow, Mao, practicing yoga on the farm. The other animals think that something must be wrong with Mao. He doesn't eat hay, and he says words like 'namaste.' When disaster strikes, Mao and the other cows are heading out to pasture in Farmer Bob's truck. The other cows are worried and stressed, but not Mao. Mao is relaxed and peaceful. Will the other cows be able to learn from Mao? Will they come up with a solution to their dilemma?
Mindful Mao, the Happy Cow is an amusing story that includes a simple introduction to the benefits of mindfulness. The illustrations by Curt Walstead are engaging, lighthearted, and full of vibrant colors. Mao looks very Zen in his robe and beads, sitting cross-legged with closed eyes. Mao doesn't get angry or upset but encourages his fellow bovines to relax and enjoy the things that are happening now. Even though the other cows are confused by this behavior, they readily agree to have him teach them his mindfulness skills. Not only does Mao serve as an entertaining guide to meditation, but he also encourages kids to embrace their individuality. Stephanie Blau hits all the right notes with her comical rhymes. Mindful Mao, the Happy Cow not only gives kids a glimpse into how to control their emotions through mindfulness practices but will also have them laughing out loud.
