In Mia and Nattie: One Great Team by Marlene M. Bell, we are introduced to Nattie, a tiny newborn lamb, and Mia, the little girl who found her. Mia found Nattie alone in the sheep pen and realized that her mother had left her behind because she had no milk to give the little creature. The little girl noticed some differences in Nattie. She had tiny legs, a crooked mouth and one of her horns wasn’t right. Still, Mia loved her anyway. Mia fed Nattie as often as she needed to but the little lamb wouldn’t grow. Finally came the day when Nattie couldn’t stay in the house anymore, so Mia built her a pen in the backyard, hoping she could teach Nattie to live like a lamb. Slowly Mia began to change the lamb's habits like her eating so that she would know how to feed herself. Despite all of her training, Mia and her grandma knew that Nattie was just too small and would never be big enough to live with the other sheep. Not wanting Nattie to be sold off, Mia tried to think of a way she could stay...
Mia and Nattie: One Great Team by Marlene M. Bell has got to be one of the cutest children’s books that I have read in a while, and not just because I’d love to own a baby lamb! I like how the author took a true story and made it into a fun read for children. It’s sweet and straight to the point and has a furry little animal that kids will automatically adore upon reading. The illustrations are so beautiful and well done. They complement the story perfectly. Mia and Nattie: One Great Team is a book I definitely will recommend to others.
