Menace at Manville by C.M. Mutch is Another Emma and Aly Paranormal Mystery. October 2004, Emma and Aly have gone back to Davenport in Mississippi to the Manville Asylum. A creepy place, it was the place of death for over 10,000 TB victims in the 19th and 20th centuries. Jethro Lovett and four of his friends have dared each other to enter the asylum but, once inside, Jethro disappears. Ray Dalbert, a police officer who can see spirits, enters the asylum with Emma and Aly to find Jethro but they find far more than they bargained for. There’s a new entity in the asylum, a dark spirit who makes it his business to terrorize anyone and anything in the asylum and, as they pull Jethro out, they learn that the spirit was awakened by men who tried to kill Jethro. A deadly pact has been signed and now the entity is free to leave, wander at will, and this puts Jethro, his family, and everyone else in danger. Emma and Aly need to stop the entity before it is too late. Can they stop the men who raised it? Can they stop the entity from killing everyone?
Menace at Manville (Another Emma and Aly Paranormal Mystery) by C.M. Mutch is a good story but I do recommend that you read the first book in the series before attempting this one. That aside, this is an action-packed story that starts in the past and moves swiftly to the present. It’s a no-nonsense paranormal mystery that gets straight into the action and doesn’t let up. Right from the word go you are pulled deep into a terrifying mystery that sends shivers down your spine. We have a trio of investigators, all incredibly well developed, and very likable and descriptive prose that sets the scene and draws you into it. Hold your breath and don’t let go until the last page. I thoroughly enjoyed this story but do read the series in order to get the absolute best out of it.
