In Men in the Making, authors Kyle Butt, Stan Butt Jr., and JD Schwartz talk to young teenage boys about what it means to grow from adolescence into manhood based on God’s biblical standards. They candidly and creatively address such topics as how to choose proper role models, why a godly man should defend the weak, ways to show honor to elders and other adults, how to get along with your parents, winning the battle against sexual temptation and, most importantly, how to choose the right woman to marry and spend the rest of your life with - all this from a Christian perspective. The added bonus to the book was that the authors listed links at the end of each chapter that take you to other sites where you can receive instruction on various moral dilemmas, also all from a Christian perspective. This addition alone makes the book a valuable resource long after the last page is turned.

I read Kyle Butt, Stan Butt Jr., and JD Schwartz’s book from the perspective of a Christian parent who is also well versed in the scriptures. I read it with a critical eye, checking to see whether the authors’ doctrine was sound. The question in my mind during the entire time was: would I allow my teenager to receive these three men’s biblical instruction? The answer is a resounding yes. Kyle Butt, Stan Butt Jr., and JD Schwartz's conversational tone came across to me as a couple of big brothers sitting around the campfire with some young men and ‘keeping it real’ about girls, life, and God. I would definitely recommend this book to my teenager and to parents and youth leaders looking for ways to approach these delicate subjects with their teenage boys.
