In a New York City where murder and other heinous criminal acts are virtually no more, an oblivious population must now dispense with any unacceptable memories. A fugitive fleeing from his masked attackers, Frank Shelby, has been accused of murdering his girlfriend and of acts of terrorism while a hard disk contains the truth to his innocence and holds a conspiracy that could be catastrophic to the lives of millions of unknowing civilians. Amongst the charred ruins of a destroyed Manhattan, Frank and his few trustworthy friends risk death and persecution for the vindication of one, and the redemption of all.
Alex Bobl bestows upon us the fiends of dystopian literature, a cerebral and intricate environment in the realm of his novel, “Memoria: A Corporation of Lies”. In this swift and electric-pounding entertaining read, right from the beginning, I was inundated with a sense of its intense cinematic and graphic texture. As Alex leads us through the territory of the razed remains of the hollow husks of buildings that crumble in the now grim heart of New York City, a realistic semblance lends itself to the likewise hollowed-out existences that it is imperative on the people to overcome. Through this magnetizing and charging race that we are a part of with our dauntless hero Frank Shelby, a pulsing and piercing energy bounds through the pages till the end. I would hope that more had been revealed concerning the mundane characteristics and everyday details, for a more engaging absorption into the striking world of corrupt Memoria. Perhaps we will have this and more to entice us in the possibility of a sequel to this nightmarish, negative utopian land of forgotten memories in “Memoria“.
