Meet June by April Martin is an educational children’s picture book about a little girl called June. It’s the month that many have been waiting for, summertime! June’s family already has an exciting trip to the beach planned, and with Father’s Day coming up, she sure has a lot on her plate this month. When June forgot to bring along the card she had painstakingly made, and the sandcastle she built was washed away by the waves, she wonders how she can make it up to her dad for Father’s Day. With the aid of Sandy, her pet hermit crab, she will have to think of something quickly!
Meet June by April Martin is a wonderfully written short picture book highlighting the beauty of summer and Father’s Day. I loved how it teaches young readers the importance of responsibilities, including packing their bags before a big family trip. I also appreciate that it includes the invaluable lesson that it’s okay when things spiral out of control. From unexpected changes of plans to accidentally forgetting the gift June has made for her dad, it shows young readers that mistakes are not as big a deal as we might think them to be and that there is always another way around it. It also teaches children to share the joy of their experiences with their friends and to open up to each other. This is another marvelously written picture book from The Calendar Kids series.
