Maze of Deceit is a short paranormal tale by Inge-Lise Goss. The story opens with Angela, a pregnant woman on the run from her lover Lucius, his uncle, Edwin, and his friends, who seem hell-bent on getting rid of her baby. The group, dressed in red robes, burned down her house just before she escaped into the woods. Lucius told Angela that a baby with her would ruin his political prospects, but she could not help feeling there was more to his excuse. The circumstances leading to her pregnancy make her even more suspicious of everyone around her, including her parents. All she wants is to find a secure place to have her child, but her wish seems impossible.
Maze of Deceit is a suspenseful story that kept me on the edge of my seat. Inge-Lise Goss gradually gives details about Angela’s situation, and the more you read, the more they start to sound eerie. Some details sent shivers down my spine and made me fear for Angela's life. The story made me question many things. I loved this intriguing way of writing because it sucked me in and left me craving more. Angela is an ordinary woman who is blinded by love, but she receives a wake-up call that makes her realize that all is not as it seems. The author does a great job of making readers relate to her by putting them in her shoes and making them feel her helplessness, confusion, and desperation to survive. I enjoyed reading this story because it is easy to follow and understand. It has a smooth flow and realistic dialogue. I recommend this book to anyone who loves intriguing paranormal short tales.
